Four inmates are on the run from the Virginia Federal prison escape incident after they were discovered missing at around 1:45 am on Saturday June 18th, 2022. They reportedly walked away from the minimum security federal prison facility in Hopewell.

1. Corey Branch
The first on the list of persons from the Virginia federal prison escape is Corey Branch, who is 41 years of age. Branch was a serving a 160-month sentence (13 years, 4 months) for the possession of fent*nyl with the intent to distribute and the possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Personal features: Corey Branch is a Black male, has black hair and brown eyes, weighs 200 pounds and is 5″8 feet tall.
2. Tavares Lajuane Graham
Tavares Graham is the next escapee from the Virginia federal prison escape incident. Aged 44, he was sentenced in the Eastern district of North Carolina to serve 10-years in prison for possessing over 500grans of c*c*ine and over 28 grams of the base with intent to distribute.
His charges also included possession of a firearm in the commission of a drug trafficking offense. Tavares Lajuane Graham is a Black male who stands at 6″2 ft tall, weighs about 245 pounds and has brown eyes.
3. Lamonte Rashawn Willis
Willis is a 30-Year-old, 6″2 feet tall Black male who was sentenced by the Eastern District of Virginia to serve 18 years in federal prison for charges including:
- Concealing a stolen firearm,
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
4. Kareem Allen Shaw
Kareem Shaw is the final member of Virginia federal prison escape group of four. He was serving a 194-month (16 years, 2 months) prison sentence for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a considerable amount of h*roin.
He is 46 years of age, a Black male who stands at 5″8 feet tall, has brown eyes, black hair and weighs about 167 pounds.
Punishment for prison escapees
Escaping prison is an act the law seriously frowns on and prescribes punitive measures to serve as a deterrence to others.
The relevant federal law that regulates what punishment escapees and those who assisted or instigated the escape face, is the 18 US Code 751, titled: prisoners in custody of institution or officer.
The law states that “Whoever escapes or attempts to escape from the custody of the Attorney General or his authorized representative, or from any institution or facility in which he is confined by direction of the Attorney General or from any custody under or by virtue of any process issued under the laws of the United States by any court, judge, or magistrate judge, or from the custody of an officer or employee of the United States persuant to lawful arrest, shall, if the custody or confinement is by virtue of an arrest on a charge of felony, or conviction of any offense, be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both…”
From the law, persons among the Virginia federal prison escape should expect to face the following consequences when arrested.
- Up to 5 years imprisonment in addition to their current sentence,
- Fines or both.
If it is found that someone assisted or instigated their escape from lawful confinement, the person or persons will also face the following sentences according to 18 US Code 752:
